Myths about weight-loss

Alica HEVEROVA will tell you about the biggest myths about weight-loss.

„Eating after 6pm makes you fat.“
„Lose 30 kgs in 30 days!“
„Drink this magic shake and lose 1 kg every day“

Have you ever heard of these claims and promotional seductions? I hope you don’t believe them. Let’s take a closer look at some more myths about weight-loss and nutrition facts in general.

„Pastry is not acceptable when you are on a diet“

Well, not true. The key in loosing weight is CALORIE DEFFICIT! We’re gonna write about it a lot in this article. Anyway, there are people who deny any possible pastry, because they think it’s gonna make them fat. But why? Why would you think that? If you burn more calories than you take in, you just can’t gain weight. And then there are people who deny only refined grains and accept only whole grains.
So where’s the difference? Whole grains contain the entire kernel—the bran, germ, and endosperm. Refined grains are milled, which removes the bran and germ. This is done to give grains a finer texture but it also removes dietary fiber, iron, and many B vitamins.
People who eat whole grains as a part of a healthy diet may lower their chances of developing some chronic diseases. So what’s the conclusion? You are not gonna gain weight by eating either whole grains or refined grains as long as you watch your intake. However, the whole-grain foods are richer in micronutrients and fiber.

„Some people can eat whatever they want and still lose weight.”

Let’s say it again. CALORIE DEFFICIT is the key! To lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you take in. Some people may seem to get away with eating any kind of food they want and still not gaining any weight or even losing weight. There’s always that one friend who can eat 5 burgers, than drink coca-cola and as a sweet dot at the end eat a chocolate cheesecake.
But that person, like everyone, must use more energy than he take in through food and drinks to lose weight. A number of factors such as your age, genes, medicines, and lifestyle habits may affect your weight.

“Low-fat” or “fat-free” is the only possible choice.

Some low-fat or even fat-free products can be good, but a lot of them are not. These foods may be lower in calories than a full-fat products. My advice – always read a label! A lot of adapted products may contain as many calories as the full-fat versions of the same foods, or even more.
These foods may also contain added flour, salt, starch, or sugar to improve flavor and texture after fat had been removed.

“Eating after 6pm makes you fat”

No it doesn’t. Eating more calories than you burn makes you fat – CALORIE DEFFICIT in the game once again. If you have a training at 7 pm it means you can’t eat after your workout because it’s over 6pm? That would be silly. Your body is hungry after training, your muscles crave to be fueled and you need to give your body all micronutrients that you sweated out during the workout.
What does that mean? It means that you can eat even at 10pm. Just watch your calorie intake and also choose the right ratio of macros. “Frozen or canned food has no vitamins.

”Canned or frozen fruits and veggies provide as many nutrients as fresh ones."

The advantage, however, is a lower cost. Healthy options include low-salt canned veggies and fruit canned in its own juice without added sugar. Be sure to always rinse canned veggies to remove excess salt. Canned, dried, or frozen beans, lentils, peas or tuna and sardines are also healthy sources of protein.

„Lose 30 kgs in 30 days!“

Have you heard about that? I am sure you have. Promotion has a long jaws nowdays. Lot of people believe every word they read on the internet. There are so many brands on the market that promise you to loose many kgs just by taking some magic pills or miraculous shakes. Please never trust those. First of all, you can only lose weight thanks to CALORIE DEFFICIT and not because of some crazy pill. And the other thing is - losing that much weight over a short period of time would only cause you a real health problems.
